The Powerful and Bold GWM Tank 700 Hi4-T Plug-in Hybrid SUV

Chinese manufacturer GWM has just unveiled its latest gem, the GWM Tank 700 Hi4-T Plug-in Hybrid 2024. This formidable SUV surpasses its predecessors, the Tank 300, 400, and 500 models, in terms of power and performance. Equipped with a brand-new 3.0-liter dual-turbo gasoline-electric motor, the Tank 700 Hi4-T offers an astonishing 386kW of power and an impressive 750 Nm of torque. This firmly places it at the top of GWM’s SUV range and positions it as a direct competitor to iconic models such as the Toyota LandCruiser and the Nissan Patrol.

With a robust and eye-catching design, the Tank 700 Hi4-T takes inspiration from renowned vehicles like the Brabus G-Wagon and previous generations of the Shelby Mustang. Its dimensions of 5113mm in length, 2061mm in width, and 1952mm in height, paired with a wheelbase of 3000mm, make it larger than the Series 300 but slightly smaller than the upcoming GMC Yukon.

This off-road vehicle follows a traditional body-on-frame construction, ensuring durability and off-road capability. The 4×4 all-wheel drive system provides excellent traction and stability, while features such as the low-range gearbox, air springs, and electronic disconnecting sway bar system enhance its versatility. Additionally, the Premiere Limited Edition comes with an extreme body kit, electromagnetic dampers, and 22-inch alloy wheels with high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

Although specific details about towing capacity, payload, wading depth, and off-road performance have not been released yet, previous models suggest that the Tank 700 Hi4-T will be competitive in these areas. The electrified V6 engine, while not significantly increasing torque compared to smaller engines, offers an additional 86kW of power and a wider torque range. Transmission functions are taken care of by a nine-speed automatic gearbox, consistent with GWM’s plug-in hybrid lineup.

Inside the Tank 700 Hi4-T, the interior design is as bold as the exterior. It features a two-tone white and black color scheme, luxurious leather upholstery, a star observation roof, and striking orange stitching and decorative details.

Although currently limited to the Chinese market, GWM-Haval Australia has expressed interest in bringing the Tank 700 to Australia. While further updates are expected, car enthusiasts can anticipate that the production version will have a more understated and sophisticated look.
